Consider the Numbers
Our new MCI J4500 gets 5 to 9 mpg. (We know some SUVs that don't do much better!) And the highest mileage Hybrid car gets 60 to 66 mpg. But when you adjust the numbers to account for per-passenger fuel efficiency, the picture looks a little different:
1. You're going green. Motorcoaches are cleaner than trains, planes and cars by far. Passenger cars alone have cause about 60 percent of U.S. carbon emissions over the last 20 ears, according to the Department of Energy.
2. You're conserving energy. One fully occupied coach is 475% more energy efficient that even the most popular hybrid car.
3. You're easing traffic congestion. A fully occupied motorcoach can displace as many as 57 passenger cars from crowded highways.
4. You're saving the nation money. Highway congestion cost U.S. taxpayers $72 billion annually in wasted resources and lost productivity.
5. You're spending time wisely. Go where you want to go: Motorcoaches go everywhere you want to travel - to entertainment venues, shopping, the theatre, vacation destinations, even to work.
6. You're choosing smart fuel technology. Diesel fuel is about 30% more efficient in its combustion than gasoline and today's ultra low-sulfur diesel fuels and cleaner than ever.
All of Blackhawk's motorcoaches equipped with 2007 diesel engines are vastly greener than their predecessors. Designed to drastically reduce polluting particulate emissions by 90 percent, they run exclusively on Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel.
Our drivers can also maximize usage of fuel-efficient cruise control as well as reduce the road speed governor setting to 68 miles per hour. The SmarTire® tire pressure monitoring system, standard on our J4500 and E4500 models, is another feature that can increase MPG and passenger safety.
